Tasks and Objectives for the Police
The objective of the judicial system is legal security and the security of the individual before the law. Criminal and social policy shall aim at reducing crime and increase public security.
The Objectives for the Police are i.a.:
- to reduce the opportunities for committing crime
- the prosecution of more crimes and a quality increase of crime investigations
- to execute other tasks than investigating crimes on the basis of public needs through prompt and correct handling, good service and a high level of availability
Link between Government and Police Authorities
The National Police Board is a supervising central administrative authority for the Swedish Police. The National Police Board is the link between the government and the police authorities. In other words, this Board is an administrative body to the government as well as a service body to the police organisation. The main task of the National Police Board can shortly be described as creating the best possible conditions in a short-term and a long-term perspective for good and efficient police work.
